Who are You and where do you come from?

Where we come from and who we are related to can be an important piece of information for someone to discover.

When Luke wrote about Jesus in chapter 3 of his gospel he wrote down Jesus' family tree so that people would know who Jesus was and that he was the promised Messiah. He includes King David (the boy who killed Goliath the giant), because the promised Messiah was known as the Son of David.
Jesus lived up to everything his ancestry had said about him.

In our story of Peter and his road to becoming a pirate. Peter has just discovered he had a relative called John Sparrow and he thinks he was a Pirate. This has made Peter reconsider his life and if he is living the way he thinks he should. This is making him think about every aspect of his life, from the way he speaks, to his clothing and the skills he should possess.

In the first letter of John chapter 3 verse 1 John writes "The Father has loved us so much! He loved us so much that we are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world do not understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him."

Imagine if you found out that you were related to royalty or a famous sports person. How would you feel? Would you behave differently? would you expect to be treated differently?

In the same way if we are part of God's family (Like John says we are, in his letter in the Bible) then our lives should look like that. We should treat people the way that Jesus treated people - with love, kindness, grace and peace. Our lives should shine out to those around us with the Love that God has for them.
